News of May of  2017. A selected index of Academic Journals: Scopus of Elsevier

The Scopus index of Elsevier is a very good index of academic journals, recognised by prestigious organizations like the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States, the QS ranking of Universities. One of its main postive features in comparison with other indexes is the degree of internationalization. In a world of scientific globalization it is very important to included high quality journals, first world class, from all over the world.

Regarding this interesting index, ranked by SCIMAGO-SJR index, we recommend the following readerships:

1) Report by Maria-Carmen Guisan, President of the Euro-American Association of Economic Development Studies, free downloadable at Volumen 16-1 of the journal "Applied Econometrics and International Development":
The article points to the quality and importance of this index for high quality journals of Economics research, presenting a view of selected journals by country in Europe.

Every 2 years, the National Science Foundation (NSF) releases its Science & Engineering Indicators report, widely acknowledged as the definitive source of information on US
research trends. This report is mandated by the US Congress and although it is policy neutral and does not make recommendations, the information and trends revealed help guide policy makers and influence strategic planning and benchmarking for universities and state governments.
This year the NSF chose a new data provider for the report, Scopus. Why Scopus? The answer can be found in the report itself, “[a]lthough the United States has dominated S&E [Science & Engineering] publication activity for decades, it has long been hypothesized that…the developing world would…eventually reach parity with the United States (Price 1963). Tracking this growth accurately requires broad global coverage of S&E publications.” Scopus meets that need for broader global coverage, and with high quality bibliometric data.  Through using Scopus as a data provider, the NSF was able to include nearly 17,000 journals in their analysis, an increase of almost 12,000 journals from the 2014 report (which included 5,087 journals).  As stated in Nature by NSF senior analyst Carol Robbins, the changes revealed by Scopus data “show us a slightly more nuanced view of the world. We see more-rapid growth in China and India in publications.”
The inclusion of data from books and conference proceedings, source types not previously included in the analysis, also made the report much broader.
The NSF’s choice of Scopus as their data provider is another testament to the progress Scopus has made in expanding its content while still maintaining quality. Along with the NSF, additional organizations continue to choose Scopus data to underpin their rankings and reports, including: Times Higher Education (THE), US News & World report (Arab Region Ranking), QS Quacquarelli Symonds, Maclean’s Magazine, and the 2015 and 2016 ‘Best Chinese University Ranking’ reports by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy (SRC). Scopus data is also used by Elsevier Research Intelligence to build specialized reports and assessments commissioned by institutions, funders and policy-makers worldwide, in addition to powering SciVal.
To learn more about the findings in the NSF’s  Science and Engineering Indicators 2016, read “Tracking progress in US science and engineering” published in Elsevier Connect by Dr. Brad Fenwick, Senior VP of Global Strategic Alliances at Elsevier.

Year 2013

DORA. San Francisco Declaration of Research As

There is a pressing need to improve the ways in which the output of scientific research is evaluated by funding agencies, academic institutions, and other parties. Read more.
Several hundreds of Scientific Associations of high level, and thousands of prestigious researchers have recommended less bibliometric requirements in the evaluation of research institutions and researchers and more support to the work of good researchers.

Year 2010
The declaration Trust in Researchers, signed by thousand European Union academic researchers in order to request more support to Science by the European Union institutions.
The campaing "Trust in Researchers" was an important step to give voice to thousand of high quality academic researchers from European countries and transmit their demands to the European Union institutions.
In year 2017 it is not easy to find much information about this campaing and its results at internet and here we provide a summary of information published in that year. A part of this information is yet available at the entry number 14 of  World Development Blog of the Euro-American Association of Economic Studies
The "Trust Researchers" Initiative was launched in February 2010 and summarized its key messages towards simplification of and a new philosophy for European Research funding in its Declaration.

This bottom-up initiative resulted in more than 13.000 signatures by researchers from more than 43 countries by May 2010.

On 8th June 2010, the signatures of the "Trust Researchers" Initiative were handed over to Herbert Reul, Chair of the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee of the European Parliament,

and to Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science.

At the Trust Website in year 2010 was written:  "As demonstrated by the European Commissions Communication on Simplification published 29th April 2010 and the following reflections regarding the issue of tolerable risk, the "Trust Researchers" Initiative proved to be effective in conveying its messages."

Our Blog Foro Unives would like to find if  the results of these campaing have got good results for scientific support from the European Union in years 2010-2017. There is little information in this regard, and we will try to check and explain here durin g the next months of 2017. For the moment we have not find any importan improvement.

The great importance of DORA Declaration is shown in Wikipedia 31st March of 2019
